Tracy Harrison, School of Applied Functional Medicine | How a vitamin J (AKA Joy), systems-based thinking, and a new model collaborating with the current system is revolutionizing healthcare

As the Founder and Lead Instructor at The School of Applied Functional Medicine, Tracy Harrison is at the cutting edge of a revolution in healthcare which focuses on identifying and treating the root causes of disease. When she's not training the next generation of FM practitioners, she's making inroads with major health institutions to help build a collaborative environment in which informed practitioners help their patients not only treat symptoms but truly revive their vitality. And, she’s taking it global! With a student body from over 60 countries, Tracy is expanding to - and learning from - the entire world.

It’s no small feat.

How does Tracy do it?

Through systems thinking and a healthy dose of Vitamin J (AKA Joy).

Tracy’s hard science background helped her build a successful corporate career, in which she used a passion for systems thinking approach to optimize and build. After observing that the very leaders that ran the organization were not at peak health, Tracy went back to square one and dove into the world of nutrition and functional medicine. There, her systems thinking evolved into analyzing and treating the human body holistically rather than in a siloed approach often used in standard medicine practices. Her work as a practitioner helped her patients recognize that their bodies are systems, which thrive when in balance.

Tracy created the School of Applied Functional Medicine to ensure practitioners get top quality research-based training, helping them learn the type of healing that drew them to medicine in the first place. She leverages the power of systems thinking as an organizational leader and curriculum developer. She collaborates with healthcare institutions to bring functional medicine to the forefront of healthcare.

Tracy infuses balance and joy into everything she does. She delights in spending time with her dogs, meditating, and hiking in the beautiful nature outside her forested Asheville home. Tracy knows that a more joyful leader is a better leader. She knows to set the organization’s deep values and exhibits unyielding trust in her team to bring the vision to life. The result? Incredible results - both in business and in health.

“I love teaching healthcare practitioners...to help them better achieve the calling and be part of the healing that drew them to medicine in the first place!”
