Alex Hamilton, Radiant Law | What does a more collaborative and networked business world need from its lawyers?

Alex Hamilton thinks it needs lawyers to reduce their workload, and move away from the billable hour. He’s motivated to spend less time working and more time at his local pub.

He used to be a Partner in New York at one of the world’s biggest law firms: Latham & Watkins. He had a Jerry Maguire moment when his memo to the executive committee - pointing out how they could do things differently - was completely ignored. He laid out a clear vision: Automation could save everyone time. Simple language could enable clients - not just lawyers - to understand their contracts. Fixed fees would bring predictability to clients’ businesses - which is a big reason why businesses need contracts in the first place.

After Alex’s memo was ignored, he put his money where his mouth was and started Radiant Law. Nine years later, his team of exceptional lawyers, based in London and Capetown, are changing the profession. Lawyers work with project managers and developers to solve problems for global companies. They move quickly - handle the important issues - and save their clients tons of money and headaches. What’s not to like?

"If you're in the business of trying to create long-term commercial relationships, maybe going around bashing each other with stupid points in some kind of ritualized dance may not be the best way of creating those relationships."
