Eric Gilbert-Williams | In each moment, we can choose what to do next

Eric Gilbert-Williams dropped out of school and his life spiraled downwards. He was depressed and living with 6 others in a 250 sq ft basement with 5”5 ceilings. There was just one spot where he could stand up - an indent in the ceiling where the light bulb was. He called it the Standing Spot. It’s a beautiful metaphor for the opportunity each of us have, in every moment - the opportunity to choose what to do next. This was a spark that, combined with mentorship, entrepreneurship and his voracious curiosity for learning, inspired him to turn his life around - and believe that a better future was possible.

He went on to rapidly build and sell a 60-person construction company in Calgary, Canada. A big reason he pulled it off is that he had a deep well of humanity to draw from. Leadership is the art of helping other people grow but you can only take people as deep as you’ve gone, yourself. Eric has gone very deep!

He has moved to the Bay area and is looking to build a new company. We’re excited to see what he comes up with and to read his book about his journey, coming out in November 2020: The Standing Spot.
