Leili McKinley, Identitype Group | This brilliant entrepreneur’s leadership assessment includes something super important

Leili McKinley built and sold two other businesses before founding the Identitype Group and the Identitype leadership assessment. This is not the industry where she has spent most of her career, but when you feel her passion and knowledge for the subject, you know it is a learned gift.

That’s important because learned gifts are completely ignored by most strengths-finding assessments. Certain skills come to us naturally but others have had to be learned. It’s often said that we should seek teachers and mentors who have accomplished what we want to accomplish. Fair enough. But wouldn’t it make more sense to find someone who has a learned, rather than a natural gift for the skill we want to learn?

A natural probably hasn’t had to struggle through the uncertainty and pain of failure in a domain nearly as much as the non-natural who had to learn the hard way. Teams must learn from each other. Isn’t it time we empowered our team members to know who they can best learn from and how?
